The Dichotomy of the Brain and the Importance of Balance

Here’s a short post that foreshadows a much longer exposition on the topic.

Your mind has two side or hemispheres. Each side roughly corresponds to a different kind of thinking:

Left side – Analytical, logical, scientific thinking

Right side – Creative, emotional, moral thinking

The trick is to think with both sides in balance. When one side dominates your thinking process it leads to a certain kind of subtle madness that makes it easy for you to be manipulated by people who better understand the way the mind works.

How to CONTROL YOUR BRAIN and UNLOCK its potential the SILVA way – Part 1 – The Mental Vacation

I’ve heard these statistics that you only use a certain (SMALL) percentage of your brain. I don’t how true that is, but I do know that THE BRAIN IS VERY POWERFUL and most people do not use it wisely.

What I’m going to offer and INVITE YOU TO READ is a book that pretty much gave me a whole NEW perspective on my mind/brain and the different ways that it can be put to good (and FUN!) uses. I’ll talk about one that I enjoy, though it’s not the most life-changing of the techniques described in this book. I’m sharing this one first because I want you guys to think of these exercises and techniques as being enjoyable, instead of another one of those things you keep telling yourself you SHOULD do, but never get around to to. (I know you know what I’m talking about!)

It is called the MENTAL VACATION technique.

What you should do is go to your “level” (which is explained in the book and I will touch upon in the next post on this topic) but if that doesn’t mean anything to you then just relax, close your eyes, breath deeply, and LET YOUR MIND MERGE INTO ITSELF, deeper and deeper until there is a steady feeling of peace and calm.

Now, with your eyes still closed both in real life and your imagination, feel yourself in the PERFECT vacation spot you could possibly imagine. The place where you feel most calm, relaxed, content, and at peace. This doesn’t have to be a real place (although it can be). It can be completely fictional, someplace impossible (such as in space or the bottom of the sea), or someplace very real (your favorite vacation spot). Now begin to feel the sensations of being there VIVIDLY.

What does it smell like?

Are there any sensations upon your skin?

What are you hearing?

Can you taste the quality of the air/atmosphere?

What you feel like it you can open your eyes and find yourself sitting there meditating, much like you were at home. Feel free to look around and explore your environment if you feel like it. Remember, you are free to have any experience you can imagine, so if you feel like FLYING AROUND or observing a detail microscopically closely you can. If you see anyone or anything there, feel free to speak with it. Don’t anticipate what it’s going to say, but accept the first words you hear popping into your head.

ENJOY the process.

And when you’re ready, sit back into your meditative state and prepare to come out of your MENTAL VACATION. I like to use the method below, that I got from the Silva Method book.

Count, seeing the number flashing in your mind as you do, and hear deeply:

1…. Every day in Every way, I am getting better, better, and better.

2…. Negative thoughts, negative emotions, cannot influence me at ANY level of the mind

3…. Preparing to open eyes

4…. Opening eyes

5…. Eyes open, feeling wide awake and better than before!

Trust me, you will feel great.

CHOOSE your thoughts. Don’t leave them all WILLY-NILLY.

Easier said than done right? Well, yea, but it’s not that tough, if you EARNESTLY want to do it. Here’s a strategy to help you deal with all of those thoughts that bring you down. And it’s REALLY SIMPLE.

Next time you start to feel anything negative, TAKE NOTICE! This is the first and most crucial step. AGAIN, all you have to do is next time you start to feel anything negative is BE AWARE of it as soon as possible. The next step can be anything, but it involves CHOOSING something. You can choose not to believe the thought you have because it very well MAY NOT BE TRUE (Satan’s LIES!). Or it may be true, but you choose to REACT DIFFERENTLY. Even if you choose at that point to succumb to your negative impulse, then at least you did that much: CHOOSE. Maybe one day you’ll choose differently, but if you’re not even AWARE of your feelings (which turn into thoughts), then you stand no chance.

The (not so obvious) SOLUTION to ALL of the world’s PROBLEMS!


I think the one main problem that people have in this world, from which every other problem stems, is that not enough people DEEPLY question themselves. Here is a scenario, and two possible lines of questioning. You must question until there are no more questions to get to the ROOT of a matter…

SCENARIO: Your friend betrayed you somehow and you want to get even by revealing a secret you swore to keep.

A self-questioning session might go like…


Q: Why do I want to reveal this secret?

A: In order to get even?

Q: Why is it important to get even?

A: Because justice is important?

Q: How will this achieve justice?

A: Because then she will be less likely to do this kind of thing again.

Q: Will it really make her less likely to do it again?

A: No, it will probably just make her angry and want to retaliate.

Q: So why do it?

A: Because it will make me feel better!

Q: And why would it make you feel better?

(This is when things get tricky; you’re probing into the speculative processes of the subconscious and it’s difficult to know if the answers you come up with are the REAL answers, or are you subconsciously trying to avoid the root of the problem.)

A: Hmmm… i don’t know… I guess I want her to feel the way she made me feel.

Q: And why is that?

A: Because then I wont feel wronged.

Q: What does that feel like?

A: It feels angry and painful.

Q: And you don’t want to feel that way?

A: No, of course not.

Q: And you think that getting even will put an end to those feelings?

A: Maybe. It will at least help.

Q: And what about her feelings?

A: I don’t care about her feelings.

Q: Then why do you want her to feel bad? If you really didn’t care about her feelings, then why would her feelings effect you mood?

(I think around here is where most people would get exhausted and throw in the towel. That’s EXACTLY what your subconscious mind wants you to do so that it can continue to exist as it always has, with the same old beliefs.)

A: Hmm… I guess I do care about her feelings… And that’s why I’m so hurt that she doesn’t really care about mine… And I don’t want to care about her feelings anymore… so I’m trying to prove that to myself by performing an action that demonstrates that I don’t care about her feelings…

(Now, you’ve gotten to the real root of the problem, from which other feelings and possible actions are stemming. At this point my Questioning side, becomes the Caring side [in actuality they were always one in the same])

C: Yea, that feels pretty bad, huh? And those conflicting feelings must be driving you nuts.

A: Yup…

C: But is revenge really the solution?

A: No, probably not… And it’ll make me feel like less good of a person.

C: So what shall you do instead?

(From here there could be a hundred solutions, while before in the blindness of anger there could be only one. You could use any sort of hobby or interests therapeutically, or to distract yourself. You could talk to her about the issue. You could decide not to be friends with her anymore, but not out of anger. The mind is free to do one of the things it does best… be creative!)


Many people just fall into the ways of thinking and behaving that they are expected to, or that everybody else does, and don’t question it very deeply. This is how oppressive self-perpetuating systems that are integral to any area that experiences sustained poverty. Most of the people there never question themselves deeply enough to decide if they accept or reject the things they were raised to believe. Their parents had a big family and so they will. But if they stopped to think deeply about it, they would likely come to the conclusion that it would be silly to try to raise many children in extreme poverty conditions. We as westerners like to ask WHY and wonder why they don’t do the same.

Now lets flip things around on us. Do westerners ever question our own beliefs. Actually, many of us do. That is one of the things about education, especially upper level education (college/university) where they actually treat you like an intelligent human being, by its very nature it FORCES YOU TO THINK. That’s why it’s so important. No offense but I guess what I’m trying to say is…

I think a lot of people don’t think deeply enough. And the biggest problem is that they think they do…


TRY THIS next time you’re feeling… UNSURE

Here is something that I’ve been doing recently that has been a great mental technology for my decision making.

Next time you’re not sure what to do (maybe it’s whether you should go out or stay in, if you should talk to someone or not, spend more time on something, even what to wear that day) IMAGINE YOURSELF IN THIRD PERSON. This means imagine you’re standing on the other side of the room, or in the drivers seat of the car, WHEREVER, and imagine yourself as you would appear to others.

Now, from that perspective, KEEPING IN MIND YOUR VALUES AND WHAT KIND OF PERSON YOU WANT TO BE, ask yourself… What should I do? The answer should come to you much more clearly than if you stay up in your head.

This is a great technique to use when trying to figure out if your BEING LAZY or if you’re RELAXING, which, for me, is a dangerously thin line.


How BREATHING can help bridge the gap between the CONSCIOUS and SUBCONCIOUS: This is the MAIN SECRET TO MEDITATION!

If you’ve ever been interested in meditation then you’ve undoubtedly tried sitting quietly and focusing on your breath. You may have experienced the calm sensations of deep breathing and the quieting of your mind. THAT’S GREAT, but it’s not the main reason for doing this exercise! The real reason is that (if you do it right) it begins to allow your conscious mind to be aware of your unconscious mind. Here’s why:

Breathing is an action that can be both voluntary and involuntary. Unlike the beating of your heart, which you cannot consciously stop from beating (it is a fully involuntary action), you can in fact hold your breath, or make yourself breath more or less deeply etc. The significance of this is that breathing is an action that can be controlled by both you conscious (voluntary) and subconscious (involuntary) mind. So when you’re breathing and not thinking about it, it is your subconscious mind at work, but as soon as you turn your attention to your breathing, it comes under the control of your conscious mind.

Here’s the trick. When you turn your conscious attention to your breathing, you want to allow it to REMAIN UNDER YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND’S CONTROL. This is not easy to do at first, as you shall see if you haven’t already experienced it.

Once you’re able to observe your involuntary breathing, without taking voluntary control over it,  you will have developed the ability to observe your subconscious mind without influencing it. Observing the subconscious will teach you eye-opening things about yourself.

The bottom line is, THERE’S A HUGE PART OF YOU (your subconscious) THAT YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF. You have no understanding and therefore no hope to influence, change, or control it, and it is DOMINATING YOUR LIFE. If your goal is to consciously decide what kind of life to live and person to be, then it is paramount that you become familiar with your subconscious mind.



Most people think they are their own selves. There is a major error in the assumption that your every thought defines who you are. Your brain is just your brain. While most people put the brain on some pedestal for organs, it is not any more vital than your heart, lungs, liver, kidney, intestines. Take away any of these organs and your dead, regardless of how smart you are or how important you think your brain is. I mean, OF COURSE THE BRAIN IS GOING TO THINK ITSELF IMPORTANT. If your heart or lungs could speak to you (like your brain basically can) they would probably often remind you of how important they are (as the brain does). So STOP THINKING THE BRAIN’S SO GREAT. If you really think about it it is the cause for all your problems, not the solution. I mean, when’s the last time a (basically) brainless insect complained of depression or felt sad about how all the other insects are treating him??

So back to my main point, your thought are NOT all yours. I think the reason that so many Godless people end up depressed or caught in these destructive mental patterns is because they don’t realize that there is another force shaping their thoughts. This force has a malicious goal, and is much more intelligent and determined than 99% of us out there. It whispers lies into your mind, and hopes that you believe them to be your own ideas. This force, of course, is Satan.

You guys might not know this, but each person has a devil that follows you around your whole life and tries to lead you astray from the path of God. This personal demon is an agent of the devil himself. The devils, including Satan, belong to an unseen race of beings that we call jinn (also djinn). Jinn can be good or evil. There are Jews, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, etc. amongst them and there are evil Godless ones among them as well, just like us humans. In addition, they are mortal, like us, but much longer lived, and they will be judged on the Day of Judgement just as we will. The difference between humans and jinn is that jinn can see us, while we cannot see them (I think they live on what we would call a “higher dimension”). They are also believed to be more powerful and are the creatures behind possessions and black magic that we often refer to as DEMONS.

So the whole reason for me explaining all of this is for you God fearing people to know that these evil jinn were allowed to remain on this earth by God in order to test us. They have no direct power over any person unless you invite them to, and all they can do is whisper evil lies into your head in the hopes that you will act on them and it will ruin your life and lead you away from God. THESE LIES BEGIN SEEMINGLY HARMLESSLY, but slowly build upon each other and become more harmful until you spiral out of control.

Examples of these lies might be things like: “This person must think they’re better than me” or “I’ll never be as cool as these kids” or “There’s no way I can pass this math test” or “I bet she doesn’t even care at all.” THESE ARE LIES!The way you can easily recognize a lie is by the absolute quality of it. Words like “never” and “always” or thoughts that begin like “I know/am sure” or “There’s no way.” Only the Sith (evil) deal in absolutes. There is always a possibility for even the most impossible situations (we call them miracles). And most situations aren’t even that bad, or are even completely misjudged when clouded by these lies.

If left unchecked, soon these thoughts turn into: “This person is a heartless jerk who deserves something bad to happen to them” or “I’m a loser and my life is worthless” or “I’ll never learn math, so I must be an idiot” or “I hate her so much, she ruined my life!!”If you don’t recognize these thought then you must be a saint. If you do, don’t worry, EVERYBODY HAS THEM. And you’ll worry even less when you realize that they are not thoughts that sprang forth from the eternal soul that God blessed us with, but rather from the vile, filthy mouths of SATAN’S MINIONS.

So what to do? Well the very best thing you can do is pray. God gave us the power to banish these demons in his name, for they have no strength except that which is granted to them by God, creator of the universe and everything in it. Now I bet that little voice inside your head is saying “I don’t feel like praying,” or “Praying is such a drag” or “I should pray but I’ll do it later.” Here is your first chance to recognize one of Satan’s lies. If you think about it logically there is no reason not to pray and it takes barely any time or energy. In addition, the benefits of having your prayers answered are immeasurable. So why not do it? Whatever answer “you” come up with for this question is truly Satan’s whisper (unless he has already converted you to his cause in which case you’ve become a devil whispering evil into others’ ears! Oh yea I forgot to mention, HUMANS CAN BECOME SATAN’S MINIONS just like the Jinn).

SATAN IS YOUR OPEN ENEMY. Do not be one of the damned to keep him company in hell. Do not allow him to humiliate and use you on this earth, ruining your life and the lives of those around you. Appeal to God and find your strength.
