God Wants You to Question Your Your Beliefs!!

God’s word is true, yea?

But what about the traditions, influences, and interpretations that people make on that word? Is that necessary true? No… But it’s also not necessarily untrue, as His word holds many mysteries that require some interpretation and usually a more holistic understanding of scripture to do so fairly. Still, when something is not blatantly clear, then it is possible (I would say easy) for people to misunderstand (in earnest; they’re trying their best) or even purposefully misrepresent (for personal or even evil reasons!) the words of scripture.

So I encourage you all to question what you hear and read, even if it’s from someone you deem an authority. The only TRUE authority of all things is God, and He will guide you if you question in earnest. Pray for such guidance and search the scriptures for the truth.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, remember to question your “truths” and you will eventually find the real Truth. If you find the Truth to be in the end what you originally believed then your faith will be strengthened manyfold! If you find it to be other than your original beliefs, then wouldn’t you be glad to find yourself closer to the Truth–God’s truth? For earnest questioning and research, accompanied by the guidance of God sought through prayer, can only result in better understanding and a greater closeness to the Lord.

God is not a god of ignorance, nor does he shun those who wish to increase their knowledge of Him…

The Messiah Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) said “‘If you continue in my word, then you are truly disciples of mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.'” [John 8:32]

In the Qur’an it is written:

“And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] silver coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, “There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned.” And they speak untruth about God while they know [it].” [3:75]

So continue in the word, and put not great faith in men–for they are mortal like you and I–and strive not to be among the unlearned.

God bless you all in this season of lent and forevermore 🙂

Weakness, Strength, and Wisdom… The Elements of Government.

It’s late, I’m tired, but I’ve been struck by the bolt of inspiration. Forgive the messiness but I just need to get this thought out.

I heard a quote (in a Nas song): “The strong rule the weak, but the wise rule the strong.”

I thought about it… it is true on a profound level. But there is a piece missing… As with almost everythign in existence, the system is cyclical. While this proverb (in the non-Biblical sense) makes sense on a logical, easily understandable level. The missing piece however is not drawn from temporal wisdom, but rather spiritual wisdom.

We learn in the Bible the favor that the weak, meek, poor in spirit, etc. have in God’s eyes and heart. They shallinherit the Kingdom of Heaven, it is said. For you see, in God’s ideal world system, the weak rule the wise. In that the wise take council from the weak, in turn commanding the strong, who take care of the weak. This is in essence the idea of democracy, in which the (weak) masses, rule the (wise) politicians, who command the (strong) army, money, etc.

This is why democracy fits so well with a Christian-born governmental system.

True wisdom is found in submission.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)

Fear begets submission.

If the wise do not submit to the will of the weak and rule the strong by their own will, then they have traded their wisdom for arrogance, and their wisdom is turned to veiled strength. So you see, the world leaders of this day are not wise, for they lack the humble wisdom of submission. They rule with intellectual STRENGTH. Not wisdom…

The question is… are they fools, sinners, or have they (or someTHING else) purposefully broken God’s system?

What does GOD want you to KNOW?

This isn’t some whishy-washy religious feelgood cliche.

God wants you to know that He loves you, even if you are the most detestable person in the world, He loves you (a WHOLE LOT!) unconditionally. And He wants you to know this because if you choose His side you will FEEL AMAZINGLY GOOD when you die, but if you pick the other side you will be cast into darkness. The real sadness and terror of hell is knowing that you are eternally separated from GOD who is the source of all goodness and love. This means you are ETERNALLY SEPARATED FROM ANY HOPE of feeling loved, accepted, cared for, etc. INSTEAD OF eternally separated from all DARKNESS and negative feelings.

God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.(John 1:5)

Tao Te Ching – Verse 1 (part 1) – with Commentary + How it Relates to God and the Holy Spirit

“A way that can be walked is not the Way
A name that can be named is not the Name
Tao is both Named and Nameless
As Nameless, it is the origin of all things
As Named, it is the mother of all things”

To understand the Tao Te Ching, it is important to first understand the title. Ching basically means “book.” So it is the Book of Tao and Te.

Now, Tao and Te are a bit more difficult to describe, as the very nature of “Tao” is to be beyond description or mental understanding. Tao is often translated as “the way” as it is here in this verse. The first line actually reads “The Tao that is the Tao is not the Eternal/True Tao” (Tao ku Tao fei chang Tao in Chinese). That is to say the Tao that you are thinking of, is not what Tao is really like. That is because the real existing Tao, is something far beyond our mortal brain’s comprehension or imagination. I will talk about “Te” and how they relate to God and the Holy Spirit at the end.

The next line goes on the say that when you name something, it does not sum up what the thing is in actually (represented by the capital “N” in the last Name). So the first words of the Tao Te Ching serve to tell us that THE CONCEPTION YOU HAVE IN YOUR MIND do not represent TRUE reality.

Tao is BEYOND DUALITY, as it can be both named and nameless.

Nameless“, is nothingness, from which we understand that reality sprung (from the singularity – basically nothing – before the big bang). It is the “origin of all things.” … True enough.

As “Named“, once it has existence, it is the “mother” of all things. A similar role (in that they are both CREATING) but the word “mother’ implies a more physical and less spiritual origin. I think this is to say that Tao is the creator of both the spiritual and physical realms.

Now, if Tao sounds a lot like God to you, well… me too. In the Quran (the holy book of Islam) it says that God sent a messenger to every peoples. It is likely that Lao Tzu, the author of the Tao Te Ching, might have been one of those messengers, in my mind.

Now to talk about “Te” which is the EXPRESSION of Tao. Tao cannot be conceptualized or divided. A PART of Tao is not the TRUE Tao. So, when Tao interacts with things, this expression is called Te. I think what Lao Tzu was talking about, in Biblical/Quranic terms is the Holy Spirit. Is not the Holy Spirit the expression of God’s will on Earth?

So the “Tao Te Ching” translates (one way) to “The Book of Tao and its Expression,” or “The Book of God and the Holy Spirit” if you prefer 🙂 (Which I do!)

We’ll find that the Tao Te Ching does not always express Tao in ways that correlate directly with the Biblical conception of God. But I think it’s important to remember that God (the TRUE God in reality, not our ideas and conceptions about Him) is far beyond our mortal mind’s ability to conceive of. And, as God cannot be divided, if you don’t understand God in His ENTIRETY, then you don’t really understand God at all.

Frustrating isn’t it! Ah, but it makes things interesting and reminds us to stay humble.

May the Force (God?!) be with you. Hmmm?

A Trippy Thought…

Here is something that is TRUE, but very strange if you consider its reality…

All that we know of the (physical) world is what we can interpret through out 5 senses… (Sight, Hearing, Smell, Touch, Taste)

(Physically) There is no way we can have ANY information about what’s going on outside of our bodies except by those 5 methods.

What is also important to consider is that these senses are based on things like how a molecule is vibrating (sight and hearing) and what shape a molecule is (smell and taste) or how the molecules fit together (touch).  These are very STRANGE and FOREIGN concepts, yea? But the taste, color, and texture of a banana isn’t. is it? Yet they are the SAME thing…

When I first realized this I thought… THERE COULD BE ANYTHING OUT THERE outside of myself. Maybe it’s just a gray, non-colored mass, or perhaps everything is more like pure glowing energy. How can we be sure there is anything at all??

All that we can be sure of is that we THINK there is…

Temporal vs. Spiritual Wisdom

Here is something to consider. We each live within 2 realities, a physical one and a spiritual. The physical pertains to all that we can perceive through the physical senses (sight, hearing, touch/nerves, smell, and taste). The spiritual world is that which we cannot perceive through these senses, and is related to intuition, witchcraft, astral projection, etc.

Spiritual wisdom cannot be achieved by physical means, just as physical wisdom cannot be achieved by spiritual means. They are opposing logics (if you can call spiritual wisdom a type of logic) and are as yin and yang to each other.

For instance, it makes no sense to forgive someone who has murdered your child if he makes no show of repentance. Temporal (physical) logic tells us that a murderer deserves to be despised, and this is TRUE. Yet, spiritual wisdom advises to forgive unconditionally, for it is the righteous way. This directly opposes temporal wisdom, yet it is equally (if not more) TRUE.

This is the paradox of temporal vs. spiritual wisdom.

If you are searching for spiritual wisdom, a good place to start is to STOP THINKING with your brain. The brain is a physical organ and so is sympathetic to physical/temporal wisdom. Therefor it is impossible for the BRAIN to understand spiritual truths. They must be felt a deeper, more subtle, level.

Think from your spirit or heart (not the organ heart, but the spiritual heart) and you shall see what I mean. It won’t TELL you anything (as the brain does) but you will FEEL its inclination and intention.

100% EFFORT is GOOD!

Today I heard something very true:

It is possible to give 100% effort, 100% of the time.

Even when you’re not able to perform at 100% CAPACITY, you can still give 100% EFFORT.

I hope that makes sense. It’s something that I will personally keep in mind when I feel the EVIL twin forces of LAZINESS and BOREDOM bearing down on my mind and will!

May the force be with you.

WIERD REASONS why things happen (DON’T DISCOUNT THEM)

I got the idea for this post from my wife. We were talking about sexism in society and she brought up a study in which teachers were found to be more likely to pick on boys over girls to answer questions at a grade school level. So the obvious reason for that is just that OBVIOUS. They might be things like well they think boys should be smarter, or work harder, or be more active. And then it’s EASY TO GET mad right away. But I implore you too… think a little deeper…

WHAT IF it wasn’t any of those obvious reasons at all (or maybe it is, but stay with me now), what if it’s because boys are more likely to wave their hands around which catches the teachers attention. Or maybe we perceive girls to be more patient and understanding than boys, so they don’t need to be called on as much (still sexist, but in this case it puts females in a positive light instead of males). Maybe it’s because BOYS SMELL! and we subconciously pay attention to smellier people!’

I don’t know!

BUT, what I implore you to do is don’t always jump at the obvious conclusions. Just because they MAKE SENSE, doesn’t mean they’re the TRUTH.

Why create ART??

I think EVERYTHING you do is art.

Now this isn’t one of those cutesy little touchy-feely mottos. Allow me to explain…

I’ve always liked art, drawing mostly. I never understood why I did it though, so I never took it very seriously. THEN I STARTED TO QUESTION IT MORE DEEPLY

What I discovered is the only thing that all the arts have in common, be it visual arts, performance arts, martial arts, WHATEVER, is that someone has to be expressing themselves when it is done. None of these things can be DONE BY ROBOTS. Even if a robot did it, the real artist would be the person who programed the robot. So I discovered that art is about EXPRESSION.

Now think about anything you do? Isn’t it an EXPRESSION OF YOURSELF AS AN INDIVIDUAL? Don’t you wash the dishes in your own unique way? Don’t you walk with a certain stride that is not like other peoples? Doesn’t your tone of voice and mannerisms express a DIFFERENT truth than those of any other human being?? umm… DUH.

So then in my opinion everything you do is ART.

When you are conscious of creating art in all things, however, then you become an ARTIST OF YOUR LIFE. One great thing about art is that it is beautiful and appealing to people. Why not do the dishes, walk, talk and act in a way that is the most beautiful version of your own personal expression? The other great thing about art is that you learn more about yourself from analyzing it. Your subconscious truths are always affecting everything you do. When you record something on paper or in video or whatever, thereby creating art, you also create a permanent record of your inner being. By studying its details you can know more about yourself.

Why know more about yourself? Because the more you know, the more power you have to be the person that you truly want to be.
